STILL BILL screening in CLARKSBURG, WV

Clarksburg, WV On Thursday, September 9th 2010, the WV Movie Museum will present a FREE Screening of STILL BILL at the historic Waldomore, 400 W Pike St, in downtown Clarksburg, one day prior to the 20th Annual Celebration of the West Virginia Black Heritage Festival.

Thomas "David" Franklin, President of the WV Movie Museum said "We are excited to help promote the African American experience in film, leading up to this years festival as we join in celebrating the many milestones that our fellow brothers and sisters have made since the Emancipation Proclamation."

STILL BILL is an intimate portrait of soul legend Bill Withers, best known for his classics “Ain’t No Sunshine,” “Lean On Me,” “Lovely Day,” “Grandma’s Hands,” and “Just the Two of Us.” With his soulful delivery and warm, heartfelt sincerity, Withers has written the songs that have – and always will – resonate deeply within the fabric of our times.

This film, which takes its name from Withers's second album, helps answer the questions about who Bill Withers is and where he's been since his music career ended. The filmmakers travel with Withers as he visits his hometown of Slab Fork, West Virginia, to see an old friend and make a trip to the overgrown African-American cemetery there. He goes to his high school reunion, attends a tribute concert held for him and visits his old Navy buddies, all with filmmaker in tow. A picture of Withers emerges: a family man, a musical perfectionist, a man ready for his next act. We get a front-row seat as he considers what it means for him to return to making music.

Filmmakers Damani Baker and Alex Vlack follow Withers and offer a unique and rare look inside the world of this fascinating man. Through concert footage, journeys to his birthplace, interviews with music legends, his family and closest friends, STILL BILL presents the story of an artist who has written some of the most beloved songs in our time and who truly understands the heart and soul of a man.

20th Annual Celebration 2010 West Virginia Black Heritage Festival September 10th - 12th

The first celebrations held by the African-American community in Clarksburg were commemorations of the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation by President Abraham Lincoln. Appropriately called an Emancipation Proclamation Celebration", the first official event was held on September 22, 1990 on E.B. Saunders Way (formerly known as Water Street) in Clarksburg, WV with city officials in attendance for the reading of the Proclamation. The weekend celebration was so popular; it's attendance exceeded the expectations of the association.
