Bluegrass for Babies

Tri-State families will find a jammin’ good time at the fourth annual Bluegrass for Babies charitable concert on Saturday, September 22. Head out to Sawyer Point from 4 to 9:30 pm, and you’ll find bluegrass music, family activities, a farmer’s market, and a selection of local food and beer.

Bluegrass for Babies, Inc. is a local non-profit organization that strives to improve children’s health by raising funds for the Perinatal Institute of Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. The organization’s goal at this year’s event is to raise $50,000—the entire amount to be dedicated to improving the health of Cincinnati’s most fragile newborns.

To strum up the funds and the fun, Bluegrass for Babies has planned a great show. Headlining the charitable concert is nationally-recognized Greensky Bluegrass. The quintet from Kalamazoo, MI was recently described by Rolling Stone’s Benjy Eisen as, “representing the genre for a whole new generation.” Cincinnati’s own Comet Bluegrass All-Stars and children’s musician Jennifer Ellis will also perform.

The organization’s “Healthy Kids for a Brighter Future” initiative will provide children’s activities during the concert. Children of all ages will be able to participate in soccer, basketball, gymnastics, music and crafts while parents learn about the importance of living a healthy lifestyle at exhibitor booths that offer sustainable living information and demonstrations.

And new this year is the Bluegrass for Babies Farmers Market, offering local honey, bakery items and fresh-off-the-farm goods. Additionally, the marketplace will feature children’s books, jewelry and other items for sale.

Fresh and novel food options you won’t find at other music gigs will be available for all concertgoers. The concert menu will feature many organic, sustainably grown and local concessions, including Green B.E.A.N. Delivery, Turophilla Quesadillas, Fireside Pizza, Street Pops, Taste of Belgium and Mt. Carmel Brewing Company.

In addition this year Bluegrass for Babies has teamed with Green Nature Marketing, Future Environmental, and Hamilton County Recycling & Solid Waste District to provide an eco-friendly concert experience. All food and drinks sold at the concession area, including beer and wine, will be served in compostable service wear. Leftover food will be composted.

Concertgoers are encouraged to collect their computer and electronics waste and drop it off en route to the event. Bluegrass for Babies has teamed up with 2trg to offer certified e-waste recycling at the Friendship Park parking lot from 3:30-7:30 pm, where a collection bus will be available to provide convenient drive-up service. For every television and computer monitor recycled, 2trg will donate $5 to Bluegrass for Babies. A list of acceptable e-waste can be found at their website www.2trg.com.

Tickets for adults can be purchased for $15 at www.bluegrassforbabies.com or for $20 at the entry gate. Children are free. Parking is $4 at the Sawyer Point parking lot.
