November Dinner - Oriental Wok in Ft Mitchell

For November, we will head South and have the banquet room at the Fort Mitchell Oriental Wok. This is a very nice (and award winning) Chinese restaurant. We go there every year in the fall. We may have a buffet or order off the menu - I'll update this posting when it is finalized. We will have separate checks with 20% gratuity added. We will have our own staff assigned and ready for us. http://www.orientalwok.com/ From CincinnatiUSA: The restaurant's unique space is one of the highs - think classy, 1980s Hong Kong hotel restaurant. There are cozy, romantic booths on the back wall, lovely dark wood furniture on the main floor and a large, festive bar. The ceilings are high and the space feels rounded, so you have a view of the whole restaurant from any seat in the house. There's even outdoor seating and goldfish ponds and fountains scattered about the dining room. For appetizers try the crab rangoon or the chicken pot stickers for a meatier first bite. One of the restaurant's specialties is the beef hoh fun noodles. These big, soft noodles are just like the ones served in Hong Kong. Here, they are served with bean sprouts, onions and big, tender pieces of beef. But they aren?t all the same. In Northern Kentucky, Oriental Wok in Fort Mitchell stands out for its elegant surroundings, fancy Chinese food made with superior quality ingredients and owner Mike Wong?s unstinting hospitality. Its niche is not exotic authenticity: this is food well-aimed at mainstream American tastes. (There is another, smaller Oriental Wok in Taylor Mill.) If you want a nice night out and you?re in the mood for Chinese, here?s a spot for you. And it?s a natural for large parties ? there?s a separate banquet room. Both times I visited I shared the revolving door with people bearing wrapped gifts to parties. Upscale dining The dining room, decorated in pinks and muted maroon, is spacious and modern, with tall ceilings from which hangs a contemporary chandelier. Windows look out on a patio and fountain. Inside there are fountains, too, with waterfalls and carp pools surrounded by greenery. A pianist sets an upscale mood on a white grand piano. You'll probably be greeted by Mr. Wong or someone else in his family. One evening, I arrived a little later than the two friends I was meeting. They had settled in and were in a good mood, having been amused by Mr. Wong and turned over by him to the waiter. He was there, visiting tables, the other evening I was there, too, and later, Mrs. Wong dropped by the table. They and their daughter, Susanna, preside over a well-trained staff who are polite and friendly, and perhaps most important, supported with busers who keep the table cleared and water glasses filled. (The more I dine out, the more I appreciate a restaurant that doesn't make the servers clear the table.) Get your meal started with one of those fancy drinks that are a standard of traditional Chinese-American places. I asked for something fruity and tropical and got a parrot-shaped glass with a drink that tastes like it didn?t have any alcoholic content, but did. ------------------------------------------------------ Owner, Mike Wong, and his family are known for making their guests feels at home.
