Avant Garden (located on the east side of the Young Building) needs to be watered once a day, before 10am or after 4pm. Two people are signed up for each shift, which should take approximately 30 minutes. If you're unable to cover your shift, please find someone who can trade shifts or is willing to cover your shift for you.
Watering Instructions:
Step 1: Check the moisture of the soil by sticking your index finger all the way into a garden bed. If the soil feels dry above your knuckle (approximately 2 inches into the soil), the garden needs to be watered. If the first 2 inches of soil feels damp, then please check the soil later that same day, to see if the garden needs to be watered after 4pm. If needed, coordinate a later watering time with your watering partner. If the garden doesn't need watering on the day for which you're scheduled, you get the day off!
Step 2: Retrieve the coupler and two watering wands from the Young Suite 203. The coupler must be inserted into the water source, which is to the southwest of the Smart Museum's loading dock. The hose closest to the gate should be attached to the coupler at the water source. If it's your first time watering the garden, please ask Katie for a hands-on tutorial.
Step 3: Screw one wand onto each free end of the hoses, and turn on the water, holding the watering wands low, near the base of the plants. Once the beds are sufficiently soaked, turn the water off. Lay the 3 hoses down in the garden and return the coupler and wands to Suite 203 in the Young Building.
