The Making of The Jazz Loft Project.
A multi-media presentation by Sam Stephenson, author of the award winning The Jazz Loft Project: Photographs and Tapes of W. Eugene Smith from 821 Sixth Avenue, 1957-1965. The New York Times called The Jazz Loft Project “an elegiac stew of sight and sound, and a singularly weird, vital, thrumming American document.” The presentation will include Smith’s photographs, clips from his mind-boggling tapes, and anecdotes from Stephenson’s 500-plus oral history interviews. He will talk about how this material is now being adapted into a dramatic theater piece called Chaos Manor.
