(CHICAGO) In conjunction with Spertus Museum’s current exhibition, Twisted into Recognition: Cliches of Jews and Others, Spertus is proud to host a one-night-only concert by “hip hop revolutionaries,” Brooklyn-based Y-Love and Diwon (pronounced Dee-wan). The pair will perform their signature global hip hop sound at Spertus Institute of Jewish Studies,
610 S. Michigan Avenue, Chicago, Thursday, January 8, 2009, from 7:30–10:30 pm. Y-Love and Diwon will perform together at 8:30 pm; hour-long deejay sets by Diwon will begin and end the evening.
This concert marks the first Chicago appearance by Y-Love (aka Yitz Jordan) and Diwon (Erez Safar) in more than two years. Y-Love's rhymes seamlessly intertwine English, Arabic, Hebrew, Aramaic, and Latin. He combines ethereal scripture with gritty social consciousness, reflecting his own life-changing conversion to Hasidism. Y-Love has been featured in publications from USA Today to Italy's La Repubblica, along with over 70 others this past year. XXL Magazine said “Y-Love is like Talib Kweli and Saul Williams in a yarmulke,” while URB placed Y-Love and Diwon in its NEXT 1000 and The Jerusalem Post called him "the scene's next crossover success.” Y-Love will debut songs from an upcoming new album, This is Unity, the follow-up to this year’s This is Babylon.
