January 2009: "The New Year's Quilt"

BOOK "PICK": The New Year's Quilt by Jennifer Chiaverini IMPORTANT: Tonight we will vote in: 1) our "book pick" for our May 2009 meeting! AND 2) I hope to have a sample of our fixed-price menu option for our March French Restaurant outing meeting! This month's book was intentionally chosen to be related to the Holidays, short, simple, & upbeat. You can read a bit about this book at: The New Year's Quilt The author is both a writer and an avid quilter - learn more about her at: Jennifer Chiaverini A special quilt-themed surprise is planned for those who attend! Many quilt patterns are mentioned and explained in the book, as the main character is a quilter. Memories become part of the quilt and the plot of the book. This adds some nice Americana and history to the reading. Check out our "FILES" (by going to the banner on the left of this screen & clicking on "files") for an example of information I loaded about one of the patterns ("wandering foot") mentioned. If you have a quilt you'd like to show the group - bring it along!! A light snack & hot beverage will be provided along with water and some pop. Please feel free to bring a snack to share with all, but try to make it relate in some way to the theme or location of the book. If desired, you can also bring a bottle of wine to share with all. Most people bring a little something and in the end we have a fun evening talking and tasting! Add your name to the waiting list if all the spots are taken. I will likely open up a few more spots if there is interest!
