Description
This month it's Environmental! We will have two presentation demonstrating how people and organizations focused on climate issues and green living are using social media to get their message out. Julie Peterson of BeyondToday.org uses video and facebook along with a wiki and a mailing list. Her tagging of images is of particular interest as a model of using tools to meet needs in unexpected (not designed for) ways. Dorothee Royal Hedinger of OrganicNation.tv also uses video as a social media strategy to convey her message. She also gains involvement for her efforts through targeted campaigns. We will hear from both of them and discuss ways we can remake the social media tools we have to meet our goals. Our theme is green this month, as climate talks in the next 45 days are critical to the green movement. Organizers: Kara Carrell currently works as an office manager for the Interfaith youth core, and as a Social Media Enthusiast, she moderates the NTEN 501 Tech Club of Chicago. Dave Chakrabarti is founding a startup! Nonprofitable.org builds Drupal / CiviCRM solutions for nonprofits. Prior to this, Dave built Drupal-based websites as a project manager for the Chicago Technology Cooperative and was an internet marketing consultant. Gordon Dymowski has over ten years' experience in public health community mobilization, from working on tobacco control and clean air policy to working with chemical dependency and the homeless. Currently, Gordon has shifted to the corporate side, working for Zocalo Group as an analyst and researcher. Gordon also has over fifteen years involvement in the online realm, starting with the Prodigy BB, and currently blogs about comics, television, and pop culture Jonathan Eyler-Werve directs field operations for Global Integrity, an anti-corruption watchdog collaborating online in 92 countries. Michael Maranda promoting digital excellence, media & social justice through purposive community. Justin Massa is executive director of MoveSmart.org, a startup non-profit organization that promotes racial and economic integration through technology. Jean Russell nurtures nonprofit leaders and weaves networks for social change (nurture.biz).
