Rorschach Performance Assessment System (R-PAS):
Intensive Training Workshop for Users of the Comprehensive System
James Loving, Psy.D., and Matthew Whitehead, Psy.D.
July 10, July 17, July 24, & July 31 (5:30-7:30pm)
Institute for Graduate Clinical Psychology / Widener University
The recently-released Rorschach Performance Assessment System (R-PAS) is intended to serve as an extension of Exner’s Comprehensive System (CS). However, the newer system differs from its predecessor in several important ways. In fact, clinicians who are already well-versed in the use of the CS may encounter several challenges as they learn and transition to the R-PAS. This four-session workshop is designed to offer intensive, collaborative training in the R-PAS for psychologists and students who are already familiar with the CS. The presenters will summarize the current state of the CS and the reasoning behind the development of the R-PAS system. They will present the fundamental differences between the two systems, including major advancements and also more subtle refinements (in terms of administration, new and refined variables, coding guidelines, interpretation, on-line data entry). A significant portion of this workshop will be devoted to learning and practicing the coding process, in an effort to enhance familiarity, comfort, skills, and inter-coder reliability. The workshop will also include interpretive case presentations, with an emphasis on comparing and contrasting the interpretive findings of CS vs. R-PAS for each particular case.
Week 1 (Tuesday, July 10, 2012, 5:30-7:30pm):
-Introduction to the R-PAS: Rationale and core concepts
-Basic administration and coding
Week 2 (Tuesday, July 17, 2012, 5:30-7:30pm):
-Group-driven review and discussion of basic coding practice responses
-Advanced administration and coding
Week 3 (Tuesday, July 24, 2012, 5:30-7:30pm):
-Group-driven review and discussion of intermediate coding practice items
-Overview of interpretation issues
Week 4 (Tuesday, July 31, 2012, 5:30-7:30pm):
-Group-driven review and discussion of advanced coding practice items
-Interpretation case presentations
-Workshop wrap-up
NOTE: In order to provide an in-depth and hands-on training experience, participants will be expected to purchase (http://www.r-pas.org/Products.aspx) and read the R-PAS manual (not provided by the presenters). They will also be asked to code a series of practice responses independently, prior to reviewing those responses in-session. In addition, it is important for this workshop series to be able to attend at least three of the four sessions to be able to register and have a meaningful experience.
