Mike Cross in Concert at Mcglohon Theatre

Cost: 22.00 to 28.00

There was a time when only a handful of students and alumni in Chapel Hill, NC showed up faithfully when Mike Cross played a local club. Now after thirteen albums and hundreds of concerts later, Mike continues to wow audiences with his dazzling stage performances. Whether he is appearing at Symphony Hall in Boston, an outdoor music festival in California, people across the country look forward to seeing their favorite fiddling storyteller and sharing the fun with friends.

On February 25th, Mike returns to the McGlohon Theater for the first performance of his 2012 “Crossin' Carolina” tour, with concerts across the state including Greensboro, Durham, Winston-Salem and Wilmington. In October, Mike played to a sold-out crowd at Wilmington's Thalian Hall in celebration of its 153rd Anniversary.

"I always look forward to playing in Charlotte and it'll be a special treat to perform in that beautiful theater named for the legendary Loonis McGlohon.” Cross said, “Of course the best part of the evening for me is getting to talk with old friends and meeting new concert goers after the show."

Cross's one-man, turbo-charged stage shows serve up a collection of humorous songs, sensitive ballads, Will Rogers-like tales, Delta blues, and fiery Celtic and Appalachian fiddle tunes, all while switching effortlessly from fiddle to six and twelve-string guitars. Mike's music is a unique blend of folk, blues, rock, country, and Irish, spiced with a good dose of wonderfully warped wit, which "crosses" all musical boundaries and defies categorization.

Mike's song “Carolina Calling” was featured by the NC Department of Tourism for a Visit North Carolina ad campaign. A song he wrote in 1973 called "The Scotsman" gained notoriety as the theme song for the Dr. Demento Radio Show, and "Leon McDuff" was recorded and performed by the Dirt Band for the first Farm Aid Concert.

“Only rarely does a performer come along whose music transcends the barriers of age and trend. Mike Cross is such a performer -- he offers pure, untamed entertainment.”
The Daily Tar Heel UNC, Chapel Hill

“In a word, Mike Cross is the consummate entertainer...”
Richmond Times Dispatch

“People who like rock . . . folk, jazz and country like Mike Cross!”
WQDR Radio, Raleigh, NC

“He's such a natural performer I couldn't believe it.”
Nancy Weisinger, Taylor Guitars

“On stage Mike Cross is a one man tour de force, a high-energy humorist, folksinger and guitar and virtuoso.”
The Advocate & Greenwich Time
