Winter CASS - Skiing at Snowshoe in WVA

Easy/Moderate/Advanced XC and Downhill Ski and Social Gathering at: Cass Scenic Railroad State Park This trip runs Thur-Fri-Sat-Sun, with travel on Thur and Sun. Contact Stuart (click on my name at the right, or call 704-717-1341). "No" RSVPs are not necessary. Primarily, this is a ski trip to Snowshoe Resort in WVA. We usually have folks downhill skiing Friday and Saturday. There is also cross-country skiing (rentals available) most years, depending on snowfall, plus hiking trails or even mountain biking along the Greenbrier River (again, rentals available and depending on snowfall). http://www.ertc.com/ (Drive time is 6+ hours (w/ stops) from Charlotte, so we carpool where possible.) Since we're a cheap lot, we like to stay in the nearby town of Cass (20 minutes from the slopes) - officially Cass Scenic Railroad State Park. We rent renovated mill houses on the river that sleep 6 to 10 each. Each large house has a full kitchen (great potluck dinners) and one or two full baths, plus 3-5 bedrooms (various combinations of twins and doubles, so you may end up sharing a room or a bed). TV, but no laundry, and no cell phone service. Bring Pot-Luck offerings for Friday and Saturday nights, if you'd like to participate. The trains don't run in the winter, but the Green Bank Radiotelescope (massive - world's largest!) is nearby and has tours. Total weekend lodging cost $75 per person alone in a bed, and $60.00 each ($120.00 total) if you share a double bed. If trip overfills, Berg members and their guests will have priority placement....
