In our Backyard - Mallard Creek Greenway

We're fortunate to live in an area that has many hiking opportunities, right in our backyard! But, how many of us take advantage of all of these wonderful places? I'm planning some hikes called "In our Backyard" that will take place in or around Charlotte. Watch the calendar for future hikes. The next hike is scheduled at Mallard Creek Greenway on Saturday, November 14, 2009. Mallard Creek Greenway is located in the University area. We'll meet at 9:00 a.m. at the Kirk Farm Fields parking lot (201 E. Mallard Creek Church Road between N. Tryon Street and University City Blvd). We will walk approximatey 6 miles. We'll start on the newly constructed section of the greenway that extends nearly two miles through mature floodplain forest. We'll continue on the 1.8 mile gravel trail thru University Research Park. This one doesn't loop around, so we'll turn around to return to the parking lot. The map of the greenway is attached (Mallard Creek Map) Please make sure you bring any necessary items (water, sunscreen, snacks, etc.). Since this should be a quick hike, I'll suggest going somewhere to eat after. Map link to directions
