Cecil Bothwell, a city councilman in Asheville, NC, will be speaking to us about his experiences as an openly atheist politician. He has gained national media attention after a few of his opponents threatened a lawsuit challenging the legality of his election. According to the N.C. Constitution, "The following persons shall be disqualified for office: First, any person who shall deny the being of Almighty God.ÂÂ" Refreshments will be provided. Supervised childcare is provided in the Unitarian Church's baby-friendly nursery/Sunday school facility. A group will go to dinner after the meeting and anyone is welcome.
