Event details: Grant Wood Studio and Visitor Center
Description
Grant Wood Studio and Visitors Center
Come take a guided tour of the original studio where American artist Grant Wood lived and worked from 1924 to 1935 at The Grant Wood Studio and Visitor Center at 5 Turner Alley.
Housed in the upper story of a 19th century
carriage house, the studio was designed and built by Wood himself. In this light-filled, inspirational loft, he painted American Gothic and many of the other works of art that made him internationally famous and gave rise to the
Regionalist art movement.
Wood’s Studio—which was called 5 Turner Alley during his day—is being preserved by the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art. The Visitor Center has a video presentation on Grant Wood and the Studio. The Gift Shop contains an exciting array of books and gift items. For more information call the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art at 319.366.7503.
