Description
While the historic building at 74 Warrenton St. in Boston has been a church and a synagogue, a speakeasy and a bar, it is most well known as the home of the Charles Playhouse. Since 1958, the theater schedule at Charles Playhouse has featured productions by legendary playwrights and performances by renowned Hollywood actors.

The Charles Playhouse's The theater has been home to the acclaimed performances of the Blue Man Group since 1995, and one of the world's longest running nonmusical plays, Shear Madness, since 1980. The acting company used to perform on Charles Street, but moved to the current building on Warrenton in 1958. The building was originally constructed in 1839 as a Universalist church before becoming the first synagogue in Boston in 1864. During Prohibition, the building became an inconspicuous speakeasy, then turned into a nightclub called Storyland after WWII. In 1958, it became home to the Charles Playhouse and has scheduled acclaimed, entertaining theatrical productions ever since.

The Charles Playhouse is the only place in Boston to find The Blue Man Group's hilarious shows and the interactive murder mystery, Shear Madness. For schedule of showtimes and dates, use Eventful as your theater source.
