Event Description: Since moving to Montreal in 1984, pianist and composer Yves Leveille has been increasingly called upon to perform his music at the national and international level. In the 90s, he decided to put together his own jazz ensemble dedicated to interpreting his compositions. This creative endeavour led to a collaboration with the jazz label Effendi, with whom he has made four albums: Signal Commun 1999, Zone Indigene 2001, Quantique 2003 and SOHO 2006. Yves Leveille has performed his music mainly in Quebec, but also in many other Canadians cities such as Halifax, Ottawa ,Vancouver, as well as in France, where the cities of Paris and Vienne have received him on several occasions. He also has several performances in New York city to his credit, most notably at Dizzy's club in Lincoln Center in May 2007, his sextet sharing the stage with multi-instrumentalist Paul McCandless. In addition, his piano playing skills have led him to such far-flung locales as Singapore.

More about BEAT NIQ Jazz & Social Club
BEAT NIQ Jazz & Social Club
Opened in March 1997, BEAT NIQ Jazz & Social Club has from the start been driven by the musicians and exists for the musicians. The club has been a vision inspired by a love for jazz and the incredible talent base of local musicians... a club that is energized by improvisation; a potential stepping stone for great talent. It is our goal to support and encourage the jazz community to thrive in Calgary, and offer our patrons the total jazz experience.

It all started with jazz in Bistro Piq Niq (upstairs from the club) in 1995, where the music added soul to the dining experience. Soon the cafe became a thriving haunt for jazz lovers, and growth was inevitable. The spring of 1997 saw a migration to the underground New York style space and further expansion in 1998 in order to participate in the summer Jazz City Festival. The club has been described as a sexy, New York club with great atmosphere, great service, and incredible soul

We send utmost appreciation and acknowledgement to the many musicians who have helped in the development of the club, and in sharing and encouraging our vision!
