Workshop: Directing... The Killer Scene at Calgary Society Of Independent Filmmakers (CSIF)

A directing workshop designed to help filmmakers critically analyze, dissect and exploit the dramatic power of the script.

The workshop will immerse participants in the creative duties of the director and explore how to get the most out of your pre-production time.

Using their own script, students will breakdown and visualize the written material, learn how to develop a distinct style and approach and understand each scene for it’s place and value within the story, along the way identifying beats, turning points, subtext and the essence of the scene.

Following the director’s breakdown and analysis, each member of the class will be given the opportunity to design, block, frame and compose the shots in their scenes.

A minimum of one scripted scene of one to two pages is required for the work in this class.
