The University of Calgary Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Music invites you to discover a new perspective on classical music. German accordionist Stefan Hussong’s sheer artistry and technical virtuosity unleash the expressive power of his instrument and transcend any perceived limits of the accordion.
Renowned for his transcriptions of Baroque masterpieces, Hussong’s repertoire extends from early music to music of our time. He says “What, in fact, does "evolution" means in musical terms? Music changes with time, of course, but often when we look back on the past at a certain point, what we thought was "new" starts to look old, while what was "old" lets us make new discoveries. If the new and the old are juxtaposed, then, we begin to see things that we didn't notice before.â€
