2008 National SLAM! In Calgary! November 5th - 9th 2008 Auburn Saloon, #163 115 9th Ave SE Central Library - John Dutton Theatre - 616 Macleod Trail SE Hosts: The Calgary International Spoken Word Festival & SpoCan The 2008 NATIONAL SLAM! & Canadian Festival of Spoken Word is coming to Calgary in November and The Calgary International Spoken Word Festival is gearing up with SpoCan to host Canada's top slam poets. SLAM teams (12 teams of 4) from across Canada will fly into Cowtown for five action-packed, burgeoning days of workshops, discussion, and high-octane head-to-head bouts of 3-minute poems - until a winning team is crowned on the 8th! Spoken Word heavyweights shane avec i grec, Clifton Joseph, D. Kimm, Shane Koyczan, Dwayne Morgan, Andrea Thompson, R.C. Weslowski, and Sheri-D Wilson will headline throughout the week. Calgary's own Golden Beret winner, Sarah Murphy, will open the celebration with the launch of her spoken word CD, when bill danced the war.


SLAM teams (12 teams of 4) from across Canada (including teams from Victoria, Vancouver, Calgary, Ottawa, Toronto, Montreal, and Halifax) will fly into Cowtown for five action-packed, burgeoning days of workshops, discussion, networking, open mics, CD launches, public forums, word innovation and high-octane head-to-head bouts of 3-minute poems - until a winning team is crowned!

Calgary's own Golden Beret winner and May SLAM celebrity judge, Sarah Murphy will open the celebration with the launch of her spoken word CD, when bill danced the war.

SLAM bouts on November 6th and 7th, with the final, winner-crowning round on the 8th.
