Description
This is a Mifflin County walk. The YMCA (www.jvymca.org) is open Mon - Fri 5 am - 10 pm, Sat (Fall and Winter - 7 am- 5 pm; Summer - 7 am - noon), Sun (Fall and Winter - 1 pm - 7 pm; Summer 1 pm - 5 pm). It is closed on all major holidays. The trail is on paved roads through the Borough of Burnham and surrounding countryside. It was named after Burnham, England. In the Borough is the Standard Steel Company (formerly Freedom Forge) which has been making iron and steel products since 1795 and is likely the oldest continuously operating forging company in America. Standard Steel has served the railway industry since its inception. In 1904 the company produced the first solid forged and rolled wheel in the United States. The company is serviced by the Juniata Valley RR established in 1895. A portion of the trail goes through Derry Township Community Park with picnic and camping facilities, miniature golf, batting cages, several baseball fields, and the Theatre in the Park. (for more information access 'community park' at the township website www.co.mifflin.pa.us/mif-derry).
