2 Day Drill Down on Entity Framework Code First (unconfirmed, gathering interest...) at Burlington, Vermont, United States
I am considering teaching this class somewhere near Burlington Vermont in February 2012. I live in the area so it would mean no travel for me. Big plus. Th class would be on Thursday and Friday. This means you could come to Vermont for work and stay for the weekend to ski/snowboard/enjoy.
I won't commit to it unless I know there's interest.
The class would most likely be $1000 for the two days with an early bird discount price of $800. I anticipate a small class with personal attention.
Alternatively I could have a larger class with a lower price, but the amount of personal attention would be minimal.
If you think you would be very interested in this class. Please indicate it with an "Interested" ticket. I will decide in November or December and get back to you.
Abstract
Spend two days with Entity Framework guru, Julie Lerman, catching up with Code First and the DbContext API. These features were first introduced with Entity Framework 4.1 and leverage the core EF libraries in the .NET framework. Microsoft is shifting to presenting Code First and the DbContext as the primary way to use Entity Framework for your .NET data access development, so be sure that you don't get left behind! The first day will focus on the ins and outs of getting Code First to follow your intentions of how it should map your domain classes to your database as well as controlling how to connect to your database at runtime. On the second day, you'll learn how to use the more efficient DbContext to manage data, how to construct models from your classes, how to leverage the improved State API and the new Validation API and finally how to wrap all of this into intelligently designed enterprise applications. This two-day workshop will include hands-on labs and will presume an existing basic knowledge of Entity Framework.Syllabus
Day 1: Introducing Code First
- Why Code First?
- How does Code First work at runtime?
- Configuring Code First with Data Annotations and with the Fluent API
- Configuring for validation, data attributes, relationships, database mappings and hierarchies
- Understand impact on database
- Understand impact on your application at runtime
- Code First database initialization
- Understand default and optional behavior and workarounds
Day 2: Introducing EF 4.1 DbContext /DbSet
- How do DbContext and DbSet compare to ObjectContext/Object Set
- Explore features of DbContext/DbSet that streamline EF coding
- Validation API and State API
- Integrate DbContext with your apps and architectures
- Building models with DDD in mind
