Barry Family Cellars Celebrates One Year Anniversary

Barry Family Cellars, a family owned and operated winery in the Finger Lakes region of New York, will hold a one-year anniversary celebration of its tasting room on Saturday, September 16, from 11 am – 6:00 pm, in the 1800 House, an historic building in the Village of Burdett (3821 Main Street).

Barry family members will be pouring library wines throughout the day and serving light hors d’ouvres. During this celebration, Melissa Goodwin Photography will hold an art opening featuring fine photos of Finger Lakes grapes, vines and wines. Ian Barry, winemaker and co-owner, will be spinning his favorite vinyl from the tasting room’s extensive record collection.

“The 1800 House was once the post office for the Village of Burdett and I think of this place as a community gathering space as much as it is a tasting room,” said Ian Barry. “We are so happy to breathe new life into this beautiful space where we can showcase our wine, as well as our love for music, art and community.”

In addition to Barry Family Cellars wines, the 1800 House tasting room features wines from other small producers in the region. Current labels include Fossil & Till, a collaborative venture between Ian Barry, Mark Grimaldi and Eric Clemons, Osmote from Ben Riccardi, Wild Brute from Justin Recktenwald and Randolph O’Neill Vineyard from Kelley and Angela O’Neill. “I know how hard it was to get started launching our own label and we aim to support talented, independent winemakers who are focusing on making fine wines from this region and who may not yet have their own tasting room or broad distribution,” added Barry.

Beginning November 15, the tasting room will resume its Wednesday night open jam sessions, where musicians can gather to enjoy wine, local beer, and great music. “I know of at least one band that has formed as a result of last winter’s jam sessions,” said Barry. “They were a great way to enjoy the winter and I look forward to hosting another season this year.”

Ian Barry has been making award-winning Finger Lakes wines since 2003, having worked at several large and small wineries in the region. Prior to working in the Finger Lakes, he spent several years at wineries in Oregon, Washington State and the Hudson Valley of New York. Ian’s brother, Brian, has worked in the Finger Lakes wine industry for ten years, recently joining Barry Family Cellars in both the winery and tasting room.
