The Mexican artist Frida Kahlo (1907-1954) is known for her many self-portraits full of symbolic and surrealist elements. Her enigmatic and revolutionary work presents itself as a reaction to the disastrous events of her existence, marked both by many physical ordeals and by a passionate and tormented emotional life. Although Frida Kahlo’s paintings embrace her intense physical pain, there’s no doubt that they also reflect her anguish about escaping into an existential journey. Her art became her weapon, the only one she could find to continue surviving in this world.
