Description
Marking the one hundredth anniversary of the death of sculptor Charles Van der Stappen, there will be an exhibition presenting the many different aspects of his work. From the study of antiques and of 15th-century Italy to the naturalism of his era, the Belgian artist was a Jack-of-all-trades. He also owes his fame to orders for monuments and decorative sculptures on facades and to his innovative style of teaching. We are indebted to him, along with Constantin Meunier, for the sculptures of the Botanic Garden of Brussels. He also worked together with the architect Victor Horta in the field of Art nouveau. His studio was a popular meeting-place for artists of different disciplines. You can also see a selection of drawings, preparatory sketches, plans and archive documents.
