Description
In ‘Campfire song’, Marnie Weber (Los Angeles) attracts the visitors with a burning campfire around which all kinds of mysterious creatures have gathered. The multi-media installation brings a dark, enchanted forest featuring: a female spirit tree, a comforting bear wearing a hat, a dirty bunny, a sad owl, a trophy warthog head and some small critters. The dramatic, frenetic soundtrack of a projected 16mm film which brings this installation alive, builds up the tension.

In her settings Weber deconstructs her odd, fairylike environment in order to reveal something of the real world. Through her characters Weber explores social relationships and their power in society; tensions between childhood and adulthood, male and female, humans and animals, death and life. Emotions are pivotal in Weber’s work. She deals with melancholy, happiness, loss and transgression. She presents us with multi-layered situations in which several narratives can induce many interpretations. There’s a sense of a personal mythology she’s been building through the years in which each character grows stronger through transformation.
