From the opening notes, King Wilkie's Low Country Suite announces a new beginning for the band. Using the same tools that they used to make a splash on the bluegrass circuit - fiddles, banjos, Dobros, string bass, acoustic guitars, and mandolins - they forge a new sound: the tension and release created by every brush and scrape of the instruments and the close harmonies of the band's two lead singers inform brutally honest, poetic songs of dread, exhilaration, and the truth - and the consequences of denying it. Southpaw is a large capacity, 5,000 square foot venue located in Park Slope, Brooklyn. We bring you local, national, international artists and dj's spanning all musical genres. Carved and created out of a 99 Cent Discount store in the middle of Brooklyn, Southpaw opened its doors in June of 2002 and since then has emerged as one of New York City's premiere venues for concerts and special events. Southpaw was chosen as one of the top 5 venues in all of New York City by TIME OUT NY. Our famous jukebox (RIP) was also called "jaw-dropping" in Time Out NY's Music Issue.
