If animated films are pulled towards opposing poles of Pixar`s cheerful pop culture `Shrek`, and the dark surrealism of Jan Svankmajer`s `Lewis Carroll`s Alice`, 9 sits somewhere comfortably near the equator. Shane Acker`s soft-bodied `stitchpunk` robots, with numbers instead of names, live on the run from machines who have wiped out most of Earth`s inhabitants. As `9` - voiced by Lord of the Ring`s Elijah Wood - has his consciousness awakened, he tries to rally his community (stitchpunks #1-8) into curious and courageous beings with a desire for freedom. 9`s awesome visuals of the post-apocalypse are mind-altering on the big screen!
