Description
Beneath a quirky sense of humour is one of the most talented songwriters to emerge from the UK in the past quarter century.
Mary Chapin Carpenter named Clive Gregson as one of her favourite songwriters. Melody Maker described his band ‘Any Trouble’, as the most exciting new rock 'n' roll group since The Pretenders and according to Guitar Player he is one of the ‘1000 great guitarists’.
Nanci Griffith recorded his song I Love This Town the single from her number one chart-topping album, Clive appears regularly in Nanci’s touring bands. He was also invited to be MD and tour with Dennis Locorriere (the voice of Dr Hook) on the “Hits & History” tour in 2007.
It’s more than 25 years since Clive emerged onto the music scene in his native Manchester with the band Any Trouble. He later went on to form the groundbreaking duo with Christine Collister, touring worldwide to critical acclaim and winning the accolade “the state of the art, in British folk-rock” from Rolling Stone magazine. His song writing has led him to live in Nashville, USA. Where he is much in demand for writing and album producing for numerous Country artists. He has also seen his songs covered by Norma Waterson, Kim Carnes & Fairport Convention, and is well known for his musical collaborations with Richard Thompson, Eddi Reader & Boo Hewerdine
“The Best of Clive Gregson” released in April ’09, has selected songs from his 8 solo albums, spanning 1985 to 2005. The relaxed confidence in his recordings and his live shows, display an artist comfortable in performance who’s built a successful career on both sides of the Atlantic. He is here tonight fresh from supporting Jools Holland on tour.
…but above all Clive’s solo shows are something special and definitely not to be missed.
