Few other major composers succeeded in combining buoyant high spirits with deep spirituality, elegance with power and touching simplicity with majesty as Josef Haydn, whose own geniality was surpassed only by his humility.
His oratorio, The Creation, is in the grand tradition of Handel but with Haydnâs own inimitable voice. It is one of a handful of supreme masterpieces composed in his old age which prove that, even at the end of his long life, his inspiration remained undimmed. Experience the unique emotional thrill of stirring choruses and three magnificent Haydn singers in this concert of favourite highlights from this great oratorio.
