Bar Barossa's $20,000 Big Bottle Bash at Bar Barossa
You are invited to make history by joining your friends at Bar Barossa to pull the cork on Brisbane’s biggest wine bottle – a magnificent 27 litres of Langmeil Freedom 1843 Shiraz 2006, a $20,000 bottle made from Australia’s oldest Shiraz vines.
Your winemaking host Sandy Godfrey will immerse you in the wonderful world of wine, from memorable French bubbles, Eden Valley Rieslings and zesty Sauvignon Blancs to opulent Shiraz.
Bar Barossa’s masterful chef Jason JJ Smith will tempt your palate with an endless array of moorish dishes including Coffin Bay oysters topped with sand crab, hollandaise and salmon pearls, fresh Moreton Bay bug tails with beurre noissette, Hervey Bay scallops, Fresh Mooloolaba king prawns and BBQ duck pancakes.
The Langmeil Freedom uses fruit grown from vines planted by first settlers in 1843, just outside the village of Tanunda in the Barossa Valley. The vineyard is believed to be one of the oldest known surviving Shiraz vineyards in the world.
The 2006 vintage, crafted by Langmeil chief winemaker Paul Lindner, received a 94 point rating from James Halliday.
Bar Barossa owner Trevor Harch acquired the bottle at auction and has placed the bottle on display on the bar at Bar Barossa.
The Langmeil Freedom will be uncorked at 9pm as the fireworks erupt, bringing in what we hope will be a stellar 2010.
