Crazy Bears in the Soup Kitchen

The Crazy Bears are showing their humanitarian side, as we join the Portamento of Hope to dish out some love to the hungry and homeless in our community. Join us as we serve home-cooked meals at the Portamento of Hope Soup Kitchen in Brandon. The Portamento of Hope Cafe works within the Brandon community to promote social change and personal growth through their Soup Kitchen, their computer and tutoring center, and their open air market. The word "Portamento" is used as a transition in music. Appropriately, Portamento of Hope helps people transition to a better life. You can check out their website here: Portamento of Hope What are the crazy bears doing to help? As a regular event, we cook, provide food and supplies, and serve meals at the Portamento of Hope Soup Kitchen. If possible, volunteers/attendees can meet together a day or two prior to do the shopping and prepare the meals. Those who cannot meet beforehand can feel free to prepare their own dishes or bring things like bread, dessert, soda, cooking supplies, etc. Don't worry about bringing too much... the Soup Kitchen will use any extra items we bring throughout the week. This event is held on the first Thursday and third Tuesday of every month, and each event will require a minimum of four crazy bears to cook (prior) and serve at the Soup Kitchen. In order to avoid having too many cooks (or bears) in the kitchen, we're limiting each event to six volunteers. But if you miss this one, don't fret... remember, we do this twice a month, and the folks at Portamento of Hope will accept donations on other days too (call in advance for food/supplies drop-off for "non-meetup" contributions). Our very own crazy bear Lisa is a seasoned server at the Portamento of Hope, as she volunteers there regularly... any questions about what to bring or how the volunteer process works can be emailed to Lisa or Sara. While members can feel free to bring whatever dish they choose, it might be a good idea for us to try to coordinate what we'll be preparing, so let's get the comments going (below) with ideas! After our work at the Kitchen is done, we'll likely head to a local bar/restaurant for a drink or two and some nibblies. Let's show Brandon that Crazy Bears have big hearts... See you in the Kitchen!
