Willow Creek Triathlon

The Fifth Annual Willow Creek Triathlon has become an anual event in McKean County that benefits the Disabled American Veterans. This triathlon is on one of the most scenic routes in the area. The event begins in Allegany State Park in New York state. Swimmers take to Quaker Lake, a manmade lake covering 268 acres, to swim a 300 yards. The participant then takes to the bike to start the 15-mile race to the Corydon Hotel. At that point, the participants shed their bikes and use foot power to complete the course by running three miles to the Willow Restaurant. Top racer. Top 3 overall male and female individuals, top female team, top male team, youngest combined team, oldest combined team and the top in each age group. Age groups are 15 years, 16-19, 20-24, 25-29, and so on, at five year intervals. The last age group includes tri-athletes 65 years and older. For the clydesdale team dividion, all members of the team must weigh over 200 pounds individually. Top , male and female individuals also recevie a specail award, the Thom Maholic Memorial Award. Master Sergeant Thom Maholic was a Green Beret with Special Forces in Afghanistan. He lost his life in a battle with the Taliban in June 2006. Thom was a true tri-athlete, a true American and a true veteran. This aware honors those who are true to themselves. Braveheart awards are given to those determined people who make an extra effort under extenuating circumstances to compete in and complete the triathlon. Registration starts at 7:30 AM, with a rules meeting at 8:30 AM and the shot gun start at 9 AM. Both individuals and teams of 2 or 3 may participate. Entry fees are $35 for an individual and $75 for a team if pre-registered by July 24th. After that date, registrations fees are $45 and $85, respectively.
