Steve Mullins & Rim Of The Well at The Rock 'n' Soul Cafe

Rim of the Well performs a unique brand of Flamenco Fusion featuring multi-instrumentalist/composer Steve Mullins, with marimba virtuoso Doug Walter, violinist extraordinaire Rebecca Oertli, and percussionist/dancer Rebekah West. They perform compositions by Steve Mullins derived primarily from Spanish Flamenco, but with Eastern European, Latin American, jazz, classical, and other influences. There is no other flamenco group in the world with a sound quite like this! Steve Mullins (composer, flamenco guitarist, mandolinist, etc.,) has earned a doctorate in ethnomusicology from the University of Colorado and currently teaches World Music classes there. His compositions have been heard in settings as diverse as television commercials, documentaries, national public radio, silent movies, multi-media flamenco shows, and dancing horse performances at the National Western stock show. Doug Walter (marimba) is the only mallet percussionist to win First Place in the NYC Concert Artist’s Guild Award Competition. He has performed more than 350 solo recitals and concerti on marimba and vibraphone throughout the US and 11 other countries. Doug is the head of the CU percussion department. Rebecca Browne Oertli (violin) has performed throughout the USA, Canada, Japan, and Europe. In 2009, she joined the violin faculty of the University of Northern Colorado. She has performed with the San Antonio Symphony, Austin Symphony and as concertmaster of the Kingsville Symphony, Mid-Texas Symphony and the Symphony of the Hills among others. Rebecca holds performance degrees from the University of Texas and the Juilliard School and is currently completing her DMA in violin performance at CU. Rebekah West (flamenco dance and percussion) studied flamenco cajón, the box drum she plays, with YiYi , and rhythm techniques with Ty Burhoe, Christian Teele, Bill Douglas. She is developing Online Flamenco Dance training at www.onlineflamencodance.com. West holds an MA in Interdisciplinary Studies: Visual Art and Writing & Poetics, and two dance-related BA’s from Naropa University.
