Resurrections: ECO-logy and ECO-nomy at Boulder Public Library

Cost: Free

Resurrections: ECO-logy and ECO-nomy will be an exhibition of works of functional art – such as domestic items (e.g., furniture, baskets, quilts, cooking and gardening implements), musical instruments, toys, clothing, jewelry and more – made from trash. Paintings, prints and photos are also welcome, if they are printed on non-traditional surfaces such as discarded newspapers, paper bags, used computer paper, wood, plastic, etc.

Resurrections debuts at the Boulder Public Library Canyon Gallery from May 1 to June 30, 2010. The work will be due at the gallery no later than April 26, 2010.

Artists are invited to submit proposals by February 20, 2010, electronically, in JPEG and DOC format to HeathCollom@comcast.net, subject: “Resurrections Proposal.” Please feel free to contact Jennifer Heath with any questions or ideas.

A proposal can be comprised simply of an idea with a sketch or JPEG, if available, dimensions and description of materials in use.

(A warning: it is possible there will too many proposals for quilts, clothing, coffee or side tables. Artists might be well-advised to consider other ideas or to consult with the curator.)

Artists are asked to place discarded objects -- from bottle caps, water bottles, tin cans, plastic bags and plastic-coated wire to old tires and other clean rubbish -- at the center of their work to create tools for daily living. This is not a “found objects” show -- which uses an object that has not been designed for an artistic purpose, but already exists for another purpose. Rather, the Resurrections artists will reclaim and transform materials from the scrap heap.
