Set in 1927, RADIUM GIRLS captures the true story of Grace Fryer, a teen-age factory worker who paints glow-in-the-dark watch dials for the U.S. Radium Corporation and wages a bitter battle against her powerful employer when she discovers the paint has given her and her co-workers deadly radium poisoning. Nine actors play over 30 characters in this fast-moving play that depicts a watershed moment in U.S. labor law and media history.
Following the 2 PM performance on Sunday, February 12th, an interdisciplinary panel will discuss the significance of RADIUM GIRLS to legal, media, and public health history in the United States. The panel will feature Shan Mohammed, Director of the Northeastern Public Health Program in Urban Health, Patricia Illingworth, JD, PhD, Associate Professor, Department of Philosophy and Religion and College of Business Administration and Lecturer in Law, Northeastern University Law School, and Charles Fountain from the School of Journalism. A reception with the speakers follows the panel discussion.
