ABOUT THE PLAY Jamaica Farewell is a true story that takes its audience on a wild roller coaster ride from Jamaica to America! It is a one woman play based on DebraÂÂ's true story of her life growing up in Jamaica and subsequent migration to the United States during a time of political upheaval in her native country. Ehrhardt plays some 20 characters, including her parents, siblings and a CIA agent as she recalls fleeing the turmoil of Kingston, Jamaica. A VIP Reception will precede the performance with delicious Caribbean Cuisine, silent auction and a music performance by Live Roots reggae band! ABOUT CARIBBEAN EDUCATION FOUNDATION The Caribbean Education Foundation awards scholarships to poor children who are unable to attend school, because families are unable to afford school-related costs. Our Scholarships pay for school fees and purchase text books, school supplies, uniforms, shoes, meals, and transportation. CEFÂÂ's goal is to give our youth meaningful choices and opportunities and thereby break the poverty cycle. CEF is a registered 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization, organized exclusively for charitable and educational purposes. We are dedicated to helping poor children receive meaningful access to quality education in the Caribbean. For example, there is no such thing as ÂÂ"free public educationÂÂ" in Jamaica. Thousands of children in Jamaica are on the streets engaging in microeconomic enterprises and other activities instead of attending school. On the surface, it may appear that these small 10 and 11-year old children do not wish to attend school, but that is farthest from the truth. Many of the children are brilliant and have passed their exams to attend high school. However, they are unable to attend because destitute families cannot afford the cost of books, bus fares, uniforms, shoes, and other school-related costs. The Caribbean Education Foundation awarded scholarships in April 2008 to several needy students, who as a result, were able to attend school in Jamaica. We hope to aid many more school children in the upcoming year.
