Event details: Gilles Apap masterclass
Description
The NEC Jazz, Contemporary Improvisation, and Strings departments present a special strings improvisation masterclass led by classical violin virtuoso Gilles Apap. Originally from France, Apap is well known for his improvised cadenzas, his forays into improvisational genres (mostly Romany jazz, a la Grappelli, who was a friend of his), and his appropriation of a large repertoire of ethnic fiddle music, including musics from Ireland and Romania. He will explode some myths about improvising in this masterclass. Students are encouraged to bring their own instruments.
Apap is in Boston to perform Bach's Double Concerto for oboe and violin, and also Berg's Violin Concerto, with the Boston Philharmonic, led by NEC's own Benjamin Zander, November 22 in NEC's Jordan Hall, and also November 20 and November 23 in Sanders Theater at Harvard University.
