Event details: Biota of the Abacoa
Description
Florida Atlantic Universitys John D. MacArthur Campus Library Gallery
Contact:
Diane Arrieta
Description:
Biota of the Abacoa Greenway, is a collection of drawings of flora and fauna found in the greenway near FAUs campus. Kelley McKee, who graduated this year from the Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College at FAUs MacArthur campus in Jupiter with a B.A. in liberal arts and sciences, used the illustrations for her thesis.
While at FAU, McKee, a north Palm Beach County native, incorporated art with biology and environmental studies. For her thesis, she collaborated with her adviser, Dr. Jon Moore, to develop an illustrated educational field guide to the 267-acre Abacoa greenway, a preserve network near the MacArthur campus.
I'm interested in the role of illustration in environmental education and nature studies, said McKee.
The exhibitions are free and open to the public. Library hours are Monday through Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. to midnight, Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday from 12:30 p.m. to midnight.
