Description:
Herbert Ascherman has been working as a fine art photographer for more than forty years, yet the photographs in this exhibition come from a body of personal work previously known to only a small group of friends and collectors. Selected from more than 400 original prints in the Institute’s permanent collection, these photographs represent Ascherman’s four decades of exploring human sexuality in all its fascinating variety. The curator of this exhibition is Claude Cookman, an historian of photography and a professor in the School of Journalism at Indiana University in Bloomington. Public reception, Friday, September 12, 5:00 to 7:00 pm. Herbert Ascherman will give a talk about his work at 6:30 pm in Morrison 007, Ground Floor. Both events are free and open to the public. The Kinsey Institute Gallery is located in Morrison Hall on the campus of Indiana University. Regular gallery hours are 2:00 to 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Admission is free. To schedule gallery visits at other times or guided tours of the Institute, visit www.kinseyinstitute.org or call 812-855-7686. Visitors should be 18 years of age or older, unless accompanied by a parent or guardian. About The Kinsey Institute The Kinsey Institute was founded in 1947 as a private research institute affiliated with Indiana University. Its mission is to promote interdisciplinary research and scholarship in the fields of human sexuality, gender, and reproduction. Its resources include a research library and an art, artifact, and photograph collection.
