Description:
This is the first showing of ten black-and-white photographs by Malian photographer Malick Sidibé, acquired by the IU Art Museum in 2005. Awarded the prestigious International Center of Photography Lifetime Achievement Infinity Award in 2008, Sidibé is particularly known for studio portraiture and photographs of events affiliated with Bamako’s youth culture clubs in the 1960s and ‘70s, examples of which comprise this display. Organized by Allison Martino, a graduate student in the Department of the History of Art, this exhibition is part of African Art Today, an IU Art Museum series highlighting the work of modern and contemporary African artists.
