Call Pam or Robin if you can't find us. 230-5495 or 217-1112. Trade Days: The third weekend of each month, from March through November, shoppers and swappers come from far and near to Tannehill Trade Days in search of tools, clothing, jewelry, knives, furniture and other treasures. Tannehill Hike: Park trails, many of them following the original routes of ore miners and furnace workers, cut through some of the most scenic areas of the Tannehill reserve. Among the most popular hiking trails are the Slave Quarters Trail, the old Iron Haul Road (which runs past the Slave Cemetery), the Furnace Trail, Grist Mill Trail and the recently restored Tram Track. A concrete pathway, added under a federal enhancement grant, also extends from the old spring to Farley Field, a distance of about one mile. All park trails provide an easy walk, most over wide dirt roads, some of which were originally used as early "interstates" traveling between towns and regions such as the Bucksville Stage Road which runs near the Boy Scout area known as Camp Jack Wright. Park trails run between one and four miles in length and a trails map may be purchased at the Country Store or Museum Gift Shop. Hiking and birding are major activities at Tannehill. Lunch: Bob Sykes BarB-Q in Bessemer is taking its slow-cooked meats and world famous sauce to Tannehill State Park. Bob Sykes restaurant is located in the former Furnace Master Restaurant building just inside the park. The restaurant at Tannehill features walk-up service and seating for up to 300 people. Cooked over slow-smoldering hickory wood, the pork is finely chopped and succulent; ribs are hefty; chopped beef is particularly flavorful. Pies are excellent, sold by the slice, whole pie, or mini-pie. You can get chocolate, pecan, and coconut, but the one that must be sampled is the meringue-topped lemon pie: sweet, creamy, and Southern to its soul.
