Britten&39;s work, conceived as an introduction to the instruments of the orchestra, pays tribute to the first great British composer, Henry Purcell, born 250 years ago this year. Virtuoso violinist Leila Josefowicz brings her formidable skill to the young Briton Thomas Ades&39; haunting Violin Concerto. Mendelssohn&39;s rugged yet life-affirming Symphony No. 3 emerged from his visit to the Scottish countryside.

Both performances begin at 8 PM. Please also join us for the Highland Associates Concert Comments in Reynold Kirshbaum Hall at 7 PM.
