The Grand Rapids Symphony in Concert: "ArtPrize Meets the Festival of the Arts at Ferris State University
For the fifth consecutive year, the Festival of the Arts is delighted to bring the Grand Rapids Symphony back to Big Rapids for an afternoon of outstanding orchestral music. This year's concert will bridge Grand Rapids' ArtPrize and Big Rapids' Festival of the Arts with the first performance of ArtPrize Triptych since its premier last Fall. In the spirit of ArtPrize, the Grand Rapids Symphony commissioned three of its musicians to compose a work titled ArtPrize Triptych. Each of the work's three movements is based on an art piece or art medium featured in the ArtPrize competition. Each of the composers entered their works in the music category, new to ArtPrize in 2011. The Grand Rapids Symphony is conducted by David Lockington in his 13th season as its music director. The symphony presents concerts in surrounding communities throughout Michigan and also sponsors the Symphony Chorus, Grand Rapids Youth Symphony and Classical Orchestra, and also collaborates with Opera Grand Rapids and the Grand Rapids Ballet Company.ProgramSymphony No. 2 in D Major, Op. 73 - Johannes Brahms (1833-1897) Free Admission
