Halfway to Hogmanay - Celtic Mid-Winter Party at Postal code 18020, US

For more local Celtic music events, check out LehighValleyCeltic.com - If you see something you want as a "meetup," please email info@ lehighvalleyceltic.com and we'll put it on the meetup calendar. Please RSVP so we know to look for you. 2nd Annual "Halfway to Hogmanay" Celtic Mid-Winter Party hosts: Seamus Carmichael & the Lebanon Arts Council website: www.lebanonartscouncil.org phone: 717-273-0033 admission: $20/ $10 students 13yrs+ / $5 accompanied children ** NO ALCOHOL PLEASE ** Press: "This event will have a distinct flavor of Scotland with a buffet meal, featuring traditional foods like Christmas Puddings and Pies and a Haggis. Hogmanay is the Scottish celebration of the New Year and was the official Winter Festival in that part of the world, since Christmas was not even a public holiday in Scotland until recent times. Musicians performing at the Celebration include the area's premier Celtic musicians playing many Scottish and Irish tunes and dances. If you are interested in learning some of the dances we will walk participants through a couple of simple ceili dances. The proceedings will be interrupted at some stage by a visit from the Christmas Rhymers or Mummers, who will perform a short skit where St. Patrick battles St. George, and the loser is resurrected by the potions of a fabulous Doctor. We won't reveal the name of the winner but if you know the prejudices of the Irish and Scottish writers you can probably figure it out. The Rhymers dress in eccentric costumes and masks and are part of the Winter tradition throughout Britain and Ireland. . In the spirit of our previous Celtic gatherings there will be community singing and a Traditional Music Session where musicians and singers share tunes and songs in a conversational setting. We would love to have you join in the fun by learning to play or sing a seasonal Celtic piece for the occasion if you plan to attend. So there you have it. We will have Ladies Dancing and Drummers Drumming not to mention Singers Singing and Mummers Mumming and we will end the evening with Pipers Piping out the old year and a community rendition of "Auld Lang Syne" Kilts optional but recommended " Hope to see you there!
