The Dorian Wind Quintet is recognized worldwide by professional musicians and audiences alike for its uniquely polished and passionate performances. Audiences consistently take with them memories of compelling, energetic and dramatic music-making.
Currently celebrating its 50th Anniversary, the distinguished Dorian Wind Quintet will play the inaugural concert of Bethel Woods Center for the Arts' new chamber music series. Co-presented by the Delaware Valley Chamber Orchestra, this concert will include the world premiere of Carolyn Steinberg's Natural Discourses as well as the New York State premiere of Pulitzer Prize-winning David Del Tredici's Belgian Bliss, written for the Dorians on a Chamber Music America commission.
Since its formation at Tanglewood in 1961, the Dorian Wind Quintet has been a recognized leader among chamber ensembles. Now in its fifth decade, the Quintet continues to perform in the most renowned concert halls. Widely known for its unique sonority and delightful stage personality, the Quintet performs repertoire ranging from the Baroque to Pulitzer Prize-winning commissions. The Quintet has literally been around the world-concertizing in 49 of the 50 states and Canada, touring Europe eighteen times, and playing throughout the Middle East, India, Africa and Asia. The Dorian made history as the first wind quintet to appear at Carnegie Hall (1981).
