The City of Berkeley Human Welfare and Community Action Commission will be hosting a special meeting dedicated to understanding the financial needs and opportunities for low-income residents. Please join us and invite people you know who may be interested to attend.

Purpose of the Special Meeting: Berkeley has approximately 7,000 unbanked and underbanked households. A special meeting on the financial needs of low-income Berkeley residents will help to gather information about existing resources and identify gaps in services that could help residents become more financially stable and self-sufficient. The testimony from the special meeting will be used to formulate clear recommendations to City Council.

Goals:

· Define which populations are most likely to be financially insecure

· Understand existing finance and asset-building resources in the community (e.g. financial literacy training, credit unions, etc.)

· Gather information that will help HWCAC formulate recommendations about financial stability policies for City Council (e.g. Bank on Berkeley program, etc.)

· Raise public awareness about the unbanked and underbanked households in Berkeley
