Evolution and Diversity of Mushrooms, December 12–13, 2009 at University of California, Berkeley

Evolution and Diversity of Mushrooms, December 1213, 2009 Workshop | December 12 13, 2009 every day | 8:30 a.m. | Valley Life Sciences Bldg.
Speakers/Performers: Tom Bruns, University of California, Berkeley; Else Vellinga, University of California, Berkeley Sponsor: Herbaria, University and Jepson
The warm, wet winters and the variety of habitats found in California make it one of the best places in North America to find both an abundance and a high diversity of fungi. This workshop will provide an introduction to the biology and identification of Californias mushrooms. Through a combination of lectures and discussions, workshop participants will learn about the evolutionary history of fungi and the ecological role of fungi in nature. Most of the time will be spent with fresh mushrooms in the lab. This will create hands-on opportunities for learning how to identify mushrooms. A field trip on Saturday will be a highlight of the weekend.
Registration required: $235/$260 member of the Friends of the Jepson Herbarium/non-member Registration info: Register by calling 510-643-7008.
