Description
For one night only, on Saturday, Jan. 10, at La Peña Cultural Center, lovers of world music will witness the convergence of two
powerful, ancient strains that have evolved into what we know today as
flamenco and neo-Celtic music.

Beginning at 8 pm, three Celtic harps and violin, flamenco guitar, flute and cuatro will meet in a rare concert featuring the acclaimed flamenco dancer Fanny Ara.

The details:
8:00 pm, Saturday, January 10
La Peña Cultural Center
3105 Shattuck Ave
Berkeley, CA
$12 at the door

(La Peña welcomes all ages and is wheelchair accessible.)

“This will be an amazing show,” said musician and educator Meli Rivera (who organized the event), “as one of the world’s best flamenco dancers, Fanny Ara, meets Celtic harp trio, Triskela; Danny Torres on flamenco guitar and Puerto Rican cuatro-lute; Katie White on Celtic violin, Jillian Yu on classical flute and singer/songwriter Valerie Orth on guitar and vocals.”

About the music:
“For centuries, nomadic people have emigrated from India, traveling to England and Ireland where the Celts had established their society after centuries of pilgrimage throughout Western Europe,” said Rivera. “These cultures had their own music and traditions, composed of cultural elements of the gypsies, Celts, Vikings, Moors, Jews
and other peoples. Their traditions eventually and naturally mingled like multiple rivers flowing towards the same ocean.

“Music was, and still is, the healing source of every sensible human of any culture. The spontaneous chant of the ancient peoples became one song in the end. That song began
ages ago and continues to this day.”
