Description
World Salsa Championship Competitors Eduardo Aguirre & Heather Gervais offer ongoing month-long Level I & II Salsa Series in Bellevue every Wednesday at the NW Arts Center! Try out this sexy, energetic, fun dance style in our Level I Series or, if you've been introduced to salsa already, increase your repertoire and get some new moves and style in our Level II Series! Each Series runs 4-weeks long, starting on the 1st Wednesday of the month. Level I begins at 7:45pm and Level II at 8:45pm. The 4-week Series costs $45 for Bellevue residents and $50 for non-residents, plus take a dance partner and each of you gets $5 off!!! These Beginner and Intermediate Salsa Series classes are a great way to get a firm grounding in the basics of salsa dancing. Each series takes you through a number of techniques for footwork and partnering combinations that you can use in social dance, with time for review in each class to build on each week's progress. Since these are series classes, you will learn with the same group of folks and be certain that you'll advance in each class, plus meet lots of new people! The Level I Series classes cover all of the basic moves that form the foundation of salsa dancing: basic step, left and right turn, cross-body lead, paseo, open break, and more. In addition, basic footwork patterns are covered in each class to help students increase their mobility on the floor and improve their partnering ability. Eduardo & Heather cover all aspects of leading and following in each class session, including how to step, how to hold the hand or shoulder of the follow, how to “prep” a turn, and how to give space for moves to come out smoothly, et cetera. The Level II Series classes build on the foundation built in the Level I series with additional footwork patterns and partnering combinations that increase in difficulty as the classes progress: cross-body lead with turns, throwing/catching the hand, double turns and hook turns, for example. In Level II we also add a little more style & flair to the moves - this is where each student's creativity shines through! It is recommended to wear comfortable, clean shoes with a smooth sole (no 'street shoes' or rubber soles) that offer some sort of ankle support (i.e., not "flip flops").
