The trail is through the town of Red Cloud [Webster County]. Featured sites are author Willa Cather's childhood home, the Willa Cather Opera House, the Harling House, St Juliana Falconieri Catholic Church, Grace Episcopal Church, the Farmers' and Merchant's Bank Building, and the Burlington Depot. The trail will be mostly on sidewalks and some paved roads and is rated 1+. It is generally flat and is suitable for wheel chairs and strollers. Carry water regardless of weather conditions. Water and restrooms will be available at the Start/Finish. —Red Cloud was founded in 1871. The founding settlers were led by Silas Garber, a former Captain in the Union Army. The city is named for Red Cloud, the Oglala Lakota leader, who was born in the area. It is the only community with the name of Red Cloud. The city of Red Cloud served as a model for several of Willa Cather's fictional towns including Black Hawk in the novel My Ántonia.
